Why whole-body cryotherapy?

Explore the potential.
Find your recovery rhythm.

Brief exposure to very cold air is being studied for post-exercise comfort, sleep, mood and the body’s recovery responses.

RECOVERY

Post-exercise comfort

Some studies report reduced muscle soreness at selected time points after exercise. This makes whole-body cryotherapy an option to discuss within a broader recovery plan.

See soreness research ↗
WELLNESS

Sleep & mood

A small study of repeated sessions found improvements in subjective sleep quality, mood and slow-wave sleep. These are promising early findings, rather than a guaranteed response to a visit.

HEALTH

Inflammatory responses

A meta-analysis reported changes in selected inflammatory markers after whole-body cryotherapy. This helps explain an area of scientific interest; changes in blood markers do not by themselves establish treatment benefits.

PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE

Recovery around training

Timing and the type of exercise matter. Studies have investigated strength recovery and autonomic responses, with mixed results. Plan sessions around your programme and review how you respond.

Preparation, rehabilitation and readiness can also shape a personalised programme. Session planning follows the demands of training, recovery and the individual.

2025 / META-ANALYSIS

Inflammatory markers

He et al. · Scientific Reports

Across 11 randomised trials involving 274 participants, the analysis found lower IL-1β and higher IL-10 following whole-body cryotherapy.

In context: Findings concern selected biomarkers. Small studies and varied populations limit how directly these results apply to an individual or a clinical condition.

2024 / RANDOMISED STUDY

Repeated sessions, sleep & mood

Arc-Chagnaud et al. · Cryobiology

Twenty healthy young adults completed five consecutive days with or without cryostimulation. Repeated exposure improved reported sleep quality and mood, and increased slow-wave sleep duration.

In context: A small, short-term study in healthy young adults. It does not establish treatment for insomnia, or the same response from one visit or twice-weekly sessions.

2024 / CONTROLLED CROSSOVER STUDY

Evening recovery responses

Arc-Chagnaud et al. · European Journal of Sport Science

In 22 trained men, researchers compared cryostimulation after evening training, before bed and no cryostimulation. They observed increased parasympathetic activity, especially before bed.

In context: Objective and subjective sleep measures did not improve. An autonomic response should not be presented as proof of better sleep or improved sporting performance.

2022 / COMPARATIVE STUDY

Does session timing matter?

Haq et al. · Frontiers in Sports and Active Living

Thirty-three men were allocated to early or delayed cryotherapy, cold-water immersion or passive recovery after downhill running. Findings suggested early cryotherapy may be preferable to delayed exposure for strength recovery.

In context: There were no between-group differences in soreness, CK, IL-6 or sleep, and whole-body cryotherapy did not outperform cold-water immersion.

2019 / COMPARATIVE STUDY

Soreness & strength recovery

Wilson et al. · European Journal of Applied Physiology

A study of 24 resistance-trained men found improvements in selected soreness and peak-force measures after whole-body cryotherapy compared with the other study groups.

In context: Many other outcomes were unclear or favoured placebo. Neither cold intervention accelerated overall recovery more than placebo.

2015 / SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

The wider recovery question

Costello et al. · Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews

This review included four small trials involving 64 participants. It found insufficient evidence to establish whether whole-body cryotherapy reduced post-exercise soreness or improved subjective recovery.

In context: Evidence was rated very low quality. This older review is included alongside newer studies so readers can see the development and uncertainty of the evidence.

What this means for your session

There are encouraging findings in some areas, but results vary with the population, exposure and protocol. Published studies did not test this specific unit or the proposed mobile hire programme. We use the research to inform discussion and session planning, without guaranteeing an outcome.

What other effects are being investigated?

Researchers also investigate circulation, neuromuscular responses, hormones, immunity and psychological readiness. These are research topics and possible mechanisms, not established benefits for every user. The selected papers above support specific findings; they do not establish immune boosting, hormonal optimisation, injury prevention or accelerated tissue repair.

Selected research checked 26 October 2026. Summaries are written in plain English; follow each link for the methods, results and full author details.

Useful to know

Your questions,
answered.

Can we book just one visit?

Yes. Enquire about a one-off visit for your club, gym or event. We’ll discuss your location, available space, likely numbers and preferred dates to prepare a quote.

Could you visit our venue twice a week?

Yes, a twice-weekly arrangement is one of the proposed hire options. The days and session windows would be planned around your training timetable or member demand, subject to availability and an agreed programme.

What does our venue need to provide?

Suitable vehicle access and a level standing area with room for the entrance steps and safe circulation. We’ll also agree power, nitrogen logistics and any other site requirements before confirming a visit.

How much does hire cost?

Hire is quoted individually according to location, frequency, duration, participant numbers and operating requirements. Request a tailored quote for your venue or event.

Is the truck shown already converted?

No. The image is an artist’s impression of the proposed DAF flatbed conversion and exterior branding. The cryotherapy chamber is the existing asset; the vehicle conversion and mobile service launch are being developed.

What is included in a 100% business purchase?

Request the sale information to establish the complete asset inventory and transaction terms. The chamber, any vehicle or conversion works, branding, handover, commercial arrangements and ownership structure must be expressly agreed.
